DC decoration

Good morning, crafters! This is the Daring Cardmakers‘ very last challenge for this year.

We hope you had as much fun crafting as we did this year and will continue the hobby next year.

Today we challenge you to think outside (the card) box and create some kind of decoration.

To be honest … I didn’t make this decoration myself, but our wonderful secretary at school. She’s not only brilliant in her job, she also decorates our staff room (and ladies‘ toilet 😊) seasonally and she took her time to make these cute little Christmas favours for every single colleague. It was used as a table decoration and little welcome at our Christmas dinner a few weeks ago.

Isn’t it cute?! (And a perfect way to use up the scraps from your Christmas cardmaking!)

Guten Morgen, liebe Bastlerinnen! Pünktlich zum ersten Ferientag kommt hier die letzte Herausforderung der Daring Cardmakers für dieses Jahr!

Zu guter Letzt möchten wir selbstgemachte Dekoration von euch sehen.

Ich muss gleich zugeben, dass ich dieses kleine Schokoladenschächtelchen nicht selbst gebastelt habe, sondern unsere grandiose Sekretärin. Sie macht nicht nur ihren Job sehr gut, sondern findet auch noch die Zeit das Lehrerzimmer (und die Damentoilette 😊) weihnachtlich zu dekorieren und für jeden Kollege so ein Schächtelchen zu basteln. Die Schächtelchen lagen bei unserer Weihnachtsfeier bei jedem Gast (circa 40 Stück!) auf dem Platz als kleiner Willkommensgruß und wunderbar festliche Deko.

Sehr niedlich – und eine wunderbare Möglichkeit Papierreste von der Weihnachtskartenproduktion zu verbasteln.

Ich habe meine vorhandenen Farben gut genutzt und einen Kartenhintergrund mit meinen Stempelkissen und einen mit Wasserfarben gestaltet.

Gefällt mir beides ganz gut. Was meint ihr?!

DC December Elemental Inspiration

Hello, it’s the first Friday in December and here is the last Daring Cardmakers‘ elemental picture of 2018!

The picture is very christmassy, but you can use at least three elements to make cards for other occasions too.

I bought myself new colours for Christmas and vowed to use the colours I already own much more in the future … on cards, for hanflettering projects and other little art Projects.

This card was completely inspired by the great tutorial video by Maremi. She came up with a lovely Christmas card and I copied it with my cheapest water colours (which I love as well as my expensive ones).

The elements from our picture are a tree, blue-green colours and glitter.

Und hier ist der letzte Monat des Jahres und das letzte Inspirationsphoto der Daring Cardmakers für 2018!

Das Bild ist sehr weihnachtlich, aber aus mindestens drei Elementen kann man sicher auch Kärtchen für andere Gelegenheiten basteln.

Ich habe mir zu Weihnachten neue Farben gegönnt und mir fest vorgenommen alle meine wunderbaren Farben öfter zu verwenden … auf Karten, auf kleinen Handlettering Projekten und für kleine Kunstwerke.

Hier habe ich die wunderbare Idee von Maremi kopiert, die ich in einem Video entdeckt habe.

DC Bags and boxes

Oh no… the Christmas craziness started last week and accumulated in our school’s advent market. I used the weekend to relax and just completely forgot to post.

Gift Bags and Boxes 

We'd just love to join us by making and decorating a gift box or bag.  it doesn't have to be Christmas-themed, we give gifts for lots of reasons and they all deserve some gorgeous presentation, don't they?

But I made a gift box with a cute little fox. And there are still some weeks left to think about a present that will fit in the box.

Oh ha… die Vorweihnachtszeit hat begonnen. Letzte Woche hatten wir Projektttage und einen kleinen Adventsmarkt an der Schule. Ich war ziemlich gut beschäftigt und habe das Wochenende gebraucht, um mich zu erholen … und habe komplett vergessen einen Post zu schreiben.

Aber ich habe eine Geschenkbox gebastelt. Ich finde sie sehr süß.

Jetzt muss ich aber ernsthaft überlegen, womit ich die Box füllen könnte. Oft bleiben die Boxen nämlich unbenutzt hier liegen … Was füllt ihr denn rein?!

DC starry skies

Hello, Friday! Advent time is appraoching and the Daring Cardmakers have some more winter/Christmas cards for you.

This week we're back to making cards and the theme is
Starry Skies 

Take your inspiration from the night sky when you make your cards this time.
One star or a whole galaxy of them....or maybe a glimpse of Santa's Sleigh flying by....or a Heavenly Host of angels.
Remember, it doesn't have to be Christmas - there's a whole galaxy of possibilities out there.....

I used my distress oxide inks to create a blended background and put the little fox on a snowy ground.

Ich habe den Winterhimmel mit meinen distress oxide inks gemacht und einen kleinen Fuchs in eine Schneelandschaft gesetzt.

Hello, everybody! Let’s get crafty with the Daring Cardmakers this weekend.

This week, it's time to take our first "Step Away from the Cards" for this Christmas season.  Most of our team don't just make cards, and its fun to share some other crafty makes with you.  Of course we also ask you to join in and share some of your other creations with us.

The theme for the first "Step Away From the Cards" challenge is:

Tags, Labels and Toppers

We'd just love to see the tags etc that you'll be adding to your gifts to show who they are for and from!  It doesn't have to be Christmas-themed, we give gifts for lots of reasons and they all look nicer with a bit of extra decoration!

I made a very simple gift tag. It’s perfect to use up some paper scraps and pre coloured stamped images … and I also used my own handwriting for the sentiment. (I still try to practice handlettering regularly – and I’m always looking for handlettering ideas and occasions).

DC winter foliage

Unfortunately I missed last week’s challenge … but the Daring Cardmakers already started with our countdown to Christmas. Each week we have a holiday inspired topic although your project doesn’t have to be for Christmas. You could also make (winter) birthday cards etc.

This week it is about winter and Christmas foliage, flowers and plants.

I used the paper which has a cute poinsettia pattern and added some brown twigs as extra foliage. 

Leider habe ich schon die erste Woche verpasst, aber bei den Daring Cardmakers hat der Endspurt Richtung Weihnachten schon begonnen. Es wird ab jetzt jede Woche eine besondere Herausforderung geben, die sich auf die kommenden Feiertage bezieht …

Allerdings dürft ihr unsere Vorlagen auch gerne für (Winter-)Geburtstagskarten statt Weihnachtskarten verwenden.

(Ich habe sowieso immer das Gefühl, dass wir in Deutschland nur eine Hand voll Weihnachtskarten brauchen, während manche der englischsprachigen Bastlerinnen das ganze Jahr über für Weihnachten vorarbeiten …).

Diese Woche geht es um Weihnachtspflanzen und Zweige. Dafür habe ich das Papier mit den Weihnachtssternen verwendet und ein paar extra Zweige ergänzt.

In any way you like.

I started out with this Christmas deer and thought it would be great to give it glittery antlers … but it looked more like a Carneval than a Christmas card. Glitter gone wrong!

So I tried again and gave it just a few glittery accents (the pattern on the back oft he deer and the glittery line in the background). Et voilá:

Ich dachte erst, dass es eine tolle Idee wäre dem Rentier/Hirsch ein Glitzergeweih zu verpassen … aber das sah mehr nach sehr schlechtem Faschingskostüm aus als nach Weihnachten. Die zweite Version war dann dezenter Glitzer auf dem Tierchen und eine Glitzerlinie im Hintergrund. Schon besser …

Am Ende war alles voller Glitzer und ich war glücklich 😊.

I have a very old Penny Black stamp set with dogs and other animals and used a cute dog for my card.

Ich habe ein uraltes Penny Black Stempelset mit Hunden und Igeln und anderen kleinen Tierchen gefunden. Der Hund hat perfekt auf mein kleines Kärtchen gepasst.

DC October inspirational picture

Hello, crafters. It’s Friday again and already October.

Dawn from the Daring Cardmakers picked a georgeous inspirational picture for you:

I love the blue combined with the autumnal leaves. So beautiful!

For my card I used an old autumn paper pad with beautiful designs (but unfortunately not a hint of blue) and some die cut felt leaves.

I also tried out my new metallic coloured pencils. The slight shimmer effect is much better on dark(er) paper than on regular white one.

Hallo, Bastlerinnen! Es ist nicht nur schon wieder Freitag (juhuuu), sondern auch der erste Freitag im Monat.

Also gibt es bei den Daring Cardmakers ein Bild, dass euch zu einer Karte inspirieren soll.

Ich habe einige Papiere aus einem etwas älteren herbstlichen Papierblock verwendet und noch ein paar Blätter aus Filz dazu geklebt. Den Stempelspruch habe ich mit meinen neuen metallisch schimmernden Buntstiften ein wenig aufgehübscht. Den ganz ganz dezenten Schimmer sieht man auf dunklerem Papier leider sehr viel besser als auch normalem Druckerpapier …

Genießt den sonnigen Herbst! Und wenn es anfängt zu regnen, verkriecht euch mit einem Kaffee/Tee ins Bastelzimmer!

DC Add a flourish

Using flourishes and swirls is one of my favourite card-making techniques. 

 I'll let you into a secret - it's a bit of a trick really! They are often last-minute additions when I've put a card together and get one of those  'something missing', 'too much white space', 'hmm, the balance isn't quite right' feelings.  Adding some kind of swirly accent almost always sets things right.

I added some swirls to my greeting and used the cute forest animals from Lawn Fawn.

Turn up the bead(s)

I’m quite sure that you as a crafter have a stash of beads in all colours and sizes somewhere. Right?! And if you’re anything like me, you might not know what to do with them.

So let’s inspire each other and share your beady creations with the Daring Cardmakers this week.

I first made a little heart (beads on a wire) and then attached it to a card.

And then I decided to make a new bracelet for myself.

Hallo. Heute bin ich an der Reihe eine Herausforderung für die Daring Cardmakers zu wählen.

Ich habe mich für das Thema Perlen entschieden. Habt ihr auch noch tausende von Perlen in allen Größen und Farben irgendwo herum liegen … wie ich? Und habt ihr auch keine Ahnung, was ihr damit tun sollt … so wie ich?

Dann lasst uns doch Ideen sammeln und austauschen – und unseren Perlenvorrat verkleinern.

Nachdem ich Perlen auf ein Drahtherz gefädelt hatte, habe ich mir auch noch ein kleines Armband gemacht.

Schon ein paar Perlen weniger im Vorrat …

DC Who's the (Em)Boss?!

Hello, everyone. In case you missed my card last Friday … sorry. My life is still a bit crazy. The first week of school is over and I’m looking forward to getting a routine back.

Ruth from the Daring Cardmakers dares you to use embossing on your cards this week!

I lost my „wood“ embossing folder some time ago* and finally decided to buy a new one. This one looks like wooden panels … not that „natural“. But it’s a bit 3D 😉.

And I like the look on the rather plain and white wedding cards.

*my friend found my embossing folder among hers a few days after I ordered my new one … so I have two different ones now.

Hallo, ihr Lieben. Nach sehr erholsamen Ferien bin ich relativ entspannt in meinen Alltag gestolpert – und muss noch ein bisschen meine Routine etablieren.

Diese Woche geht es bei den Daring Cardmakers ums Embossen.

Ich konnte meinen geliebten Holz Prägefolder ewig nicht finden* und habe mich endlich entschlossen einen neuen zu bestellen. Hmmm… nun habe ich etwas, das nach Holzvertäfelung aussieht. Nicht mehr ganz so natürlich für meine geliebten Waldtierchen, aber dafür 3D 😉.

Und um meine weißen und eher „einfachen“ Hochzeitskarten aufzuhübschen, ist er perfekt.

*ein paar Tage nach meiner Bestellung, ist mein Prägefolder in der Sammlung meiner Freundin wieder aufgetaucht. Nun ja, jetzt habe ich zwei unterschiedliche Versionen
